There are many methods that are used to help treat people who suffer from depression. These treatments involve a variety of medications, therapies, support groups, and even exercise.

Although exercise is not a cure fore depression it is helpful when done along with medication of psychotherapy. It has many physical and psychological benefits that will help to improve the symptoms of depression. It may not be the first thing that we want to do but the more you do it the easier it will become.

For years doctors have encouraged their patients to exercise on a daily basis in order to improve their physical life and to fight against high blood pressure, diabetes, and other conditions. Research shows that it also helps to improve a variety of mental health conditions including depression.

It is not fully understood how exercising for thirty minutes each day will help to fight the symptoms. Many believe that it has the ability to increase the levels of the neurotransmitters in the brain that are used to improve a person’s mood. Other believe that it is able to increase the endorphins in our bodies that help us to feel good, release the muscle tension in our bodies, and to help us to relax and sleep better.

The more you exercise the higher your body temperature will become – which for many is a calming effect. Each of the changes that occur when you exercise help to fight against irritability, stress, fatigue, anger, anxiety, hopelessness, and doubt.

If you have started an exercise routine and still feel that the depression symptoms you suffer from have increased or keep your from trying to perform your exercises properly than you should speak with your doctor. It is not a method to replace the standard depression treatment.

Stress is at the root of many health problems. Some depressions are triggered by stress. When this happens it is important to take steps to manage your stress. In this way you may get relief from your depression and will certainly improve your overall physical as well as mental health.

There are different ways to manage stress:

1.	Group therapy: this is when you will sit down with a small group of people who are also suffering from stress. They may or may not have depression symptoms as well. Talking about your problems with others will help you to feel less isolated and more relaxed as you work to resolve them.
2.	Yoga: This is an alternative form of medicine and can relieve stress in 3 ways.
a.	By breathing exercises: these exercises help you to relax and release tension.
b.	By the physical positions: These positions will help you improve muscle tone and coordination. They will also help you to relieve tension.
c.	Meditation: This is very good for reducing stress and tension. You can do this in the evening after work and get rid of the day’s stress and strain.
3.	Therapy: this can help you to relax by talking about your problems. Everything seems better once you have it out in the open and not bottled up inside. Talking about your problems with a third party can often help to resolve them. This in turn will reduce your stress.
4.	Psychotherapy: There are several ways that this treatment can help you to release stress. Psychoanalysis can help to bring problems that may have been hidden for years in your subconscious mind and have been causing you to be depressed your whole life. Once these problems are revealed you can then face and solve them with your therapist’s help. This can sometimes even cure your depression.
5.	Exercise: This is a good way to relieve stress and tension. A good work out will not only make you feel better physically but is also a good stress reliever.
6.	Diet: improving your diet can also relieve stress as excess junk food can cause mood swings and lethargy. In turn this will stress you out both mentally and physically. This can lead to depression.

As you can see there are several ways that you can manage stress. Once you have your stress factors in control you can then begin to manage your depression.
